Q & A WITH THOM KNOLES •
Terrorism
Question:
Thom, how do I make sense of terrorism? You
say life is bliss but I don’t see it in the world.
Please, can I have your thoughts?

Reply:
Knowledge is different in different states of consciousness.
Knowledge of the waking state of consciousness is simply
not reality in a dreaming nightmare state of consciousness.
“Life
is bliss” refers to what life can be if we know
how to accept it, to claim it and expect it. But to have
that, we must acquire the state of consciousness that
can know the reality of bliss consciousness. The failure
of the people to know how to experience this is what causes
the nightmare of terrorism’s cause, the nightmare
of terrorism’s methods, and the nightmare of attempting
to control terrorism through violence and death.
Bliss demonstrates absolute fearlessness. That is the
pinnacle of human development; it is everyone’s
birthright to live it. Therefore, the desire for fearlessness
is a natural desire in everyone.
The problem has been that, for centuries, men have attempted
to achieve fearlessness by killing their way to it. The
method has not worked, but we don’t seem to have
noted this fact. In the last hundred years or so, at least
120 million people have been killed in the attempt to
acquire the bliss of fearlessness. Now the people of the
world are gripped by fear more than ever before.
There is nothing wrong with desiring fearlessness. It
is just that the method that is being employed simply
doesn’t work. Due to chronic brain failure in the
majority of the people, the people continue to support
the idea, “maybe we just haven’t yet killed
in large enough numbers”, or “maybe we just
haven’t yet killed the right people”. Actually,
what needs to be killed is the whole killing tendency.
Enmity itself needs to be killed. And our collective ignorance
of the needs of others- this ignorance needs to be destroyed.
It is an obsolete state of consciousness that ignores
the needs of others and gives rise to the birth of an
enemy. This state of consciousness must be replaced by
use of the full capability of the human brain: cosmic
consciousness. In the all-inclusive state of cosmic consciousness,
one ceases to ignore the needs of others, ceases to create
enemies who want to kill you because you ignore them.
Wholesale, collective frustration and violence is caused
by individuals, en masse, being unable to fulfill their
desires. Individual accumulation of stress and minimal
use of brain-power, in turn, cause violent thinking and
intent. Individual violent thinking causes violent collective
intention and action. Individual violent intention expresses
personal failure to use one’s full potential. It
expresses a failure to be creative and intelligent.
Centuries of research into the “Kill Your Way to
Fearlessness” approach has demonstrated -beyond
any reasonable doubt- that it is a total flop. But still
the world does not appear to have noticed, so the same
research continues.
You say you don’t see bliss in the world. This is
why we are in a hurry to teach many people to meditate.
Don’t worry; with the help of every meditator, we
will begin to see more bliss.
Meanwhile, as my friend Deepak Chopra says, “Be
peace, breathe peace, think peace, act peace, teach peace,
celebrate peace.”
To do this we must meditate regularly and bring everyone
we know to meditation. For my part, and by the grace of
our master, Guru Deva, I will not stop teaching that life
is bliss, but I need every meditator’s help. To
bring lasting fearlessness to the world is a collective
enterprise.
Jai Guru Deva
